Darryl Kirkbright had the lake booked for this week, with just Darryl fishing, electing to fish from Gite No.1 swim and covering the deeper end of the lake. I gave him some advice as to where the fish were spending a lot of their time and after some depth finding with the bait boat he picked three spots and stuck to them all week which paid off well. I told Darryl that the fish liked a lot of bait, which is certainly the case here at Les Croix, and he responded with the following mix - 6kg hemp, 6kg chilli hemp, 2kg partimix, 14 tins sweetcorn, 14 tins tuna, 8 tins sardines, 4 tins maize, 6 tins chickpeas, 3kg Mojo groundbait, 6kg Mainline Boiles (Pulse/Fusion,Cell/Pro-Activ Pineapple) 4kg Cotswold Bolies (T2/UFO/Kick) and 10kg pellets ! Many of the fish fell for Mainline boilie hookbaits tipped off with yellow or red plastic sweetcorn, a tactic which has proved very successful this year. Darryl's catch for the week was the best so far this year to a single angler, with 30 carp taken for a total weight of 628lbs, and he only did one night ! Included in his catch were commons of 35-01 and 29-14, and mirrors of 34-04, 29-08, 27-10, 26-11, 26-06, 26-00, and 25-08 along with 4 other 20's and seventeen doubles most of which were in the 16 to 19lb class. Another mirror of 35+ lost at the net.
The weather for the week was good with just the odd shower and a nice breeze on most days. The fish are now starting to put their weight back on rapidly after spawning was completed in June and some of the fish are coming out at new highest weights - October and November are eagerly awaited !
