MOORLAND FISHERIES
NEWSLETTERS 14th APRIL 2007
Here we go again with the details of the second week of our 2007 season. Before I get on to the captures I need to paint the background to the week. We had eleven anglers this week and initially they chose to fish with friends, where possible in adjacent swims. This left a large section of the southern arm and all of the eastern arm without any pressure and the carp were quick to realise this and move in. Another couple of swim moves meant that, although the initial quiet spots were then covered, others were not covered and the carp simply changed areas. Another couple of moves, the anglers more spread out, with all areas covered and carp regularly started to hit the spreader blocks.
I must add at this point that this week has been the worst April fishing conditions that I have seen in my six years out here. The nights have been extremely cold with early morning frosts and then clear blue, daytime skies and temperatures approaching 30 degrees. Add to this a total lack of wind and water temperatures climbing from 10.8 to 17 degrees in 5 days you can understand that fishing has not been easy.
Anyway everyone has stuck to their guns and continued to put in plenty of boilies and I’m pleased to say that everybody has caught at least one thirty.

Catch summary;
107 carp (including cats)
Doubles 6 6
Low twenties 26 26
Upper twenties 34 34
Thirties 37 41
Forties 4 9 + the ninety five
On top of these there have also been catfish of the following weights;
40.00 lb, 36.00 lb, 38.00 lb, 41.00 lb, 45.00 lb, 37.08 lb, 37.10 lb, 33.08 lb,
37.00 lb, 41,00 lb, 36.00 lb, 43.00 lb, & 95.00 lb.
120 fish in total in very poor conditions and 71% over 25 lb and 42.5 % over thirty pounds……..not too bad after all.
What we have noticed is that, although the carp are obviously eating (they’re being caught) they don’t appear to be feeding as we would expect at this time of the season because we’re not seeing the blisters of bubbles that we normally see. I think that a heavy baiting campaign could pay dividends.
See you next week.
