Hi everyone. It’s the start of a new season and we all have high hopes for the fishery this year. This will be the first time for a while that we haven’t drained the lake during the winter and it will be interesting to see whether it has a beneficial effect on the growth rates. We have just completed our opening week and already we have some pleasant surprises to report, but more detail of that later.
The week started with the arrival of five anglers and we knew that no matter how they spread themselves out there would be a lot of unfished water available for the fish to hide in. Wayne and I decided to make up the numbers and waited for everyone to set up before choosing swims. Despite advice to the contrary all five anglers chose to fish the main bowl, leaving the two arms devoid of any pressure. Wayne chose to fish half way down the south arm and I went in to “snag bay”, at the far end of the south. At least now there was less room for the carp to hide.
I think that it’s fair to assume that the first week of April is going to be patchy because of the fluctuations in weather conditions and air temperatures. On top of this the fish have not yet had time to settle into sustained feeding spells so they are probably going to be at their lowest weights and will be showing massive weight gains over the next 4 to 6 weeks. With this in mind I was more than a little pleased to see some of the weights of some of the known fish.
The opening week has produced the following;
27.12 lb 13.08 lb 28.04 lb 28.02 lb 29.02 lb 33.00 lb
