Competition Winners booked for next year

Mark, Elijah and Paul were CarpWorld Competion winners and won the prize of a weeks fishing at The Retreat. Taken from 27 September, they reported great sport with mirrors and commons up to 31.5lbs. Tactics used were mainline hybrid and sticky baits krill and like everyone before don't forget the margins. Very lovely place for a family holiday. Pat kept the place stopless for our arrival and Philil was a star! All round nice guy. More than you would ever need when carp fishing. Already booked for August next year.....say no more!

1st Week report

We had a fantatic week and the weather was very accommodating for the time of year. I fished Retreat Lake with my dad, Ged Teesdale, roughly 8 a.m to 8 p.m over 5 and a half days (half a day to the market with the wives!) Craig and Caroline were very helpful and friendly, dealing with any questions that we had immediately. In addition there was also Phil who was helping out as Craig had a leg in plaster, although the sit down mower became a great wheelchair for Craig! Overall catch of 43 fish, total weight of 752lbs, heaviest fish was 34lb 13ozs. A stack of 20s and upper doubles. Caught on Animal Bait boillies, plastic corn over the top of Craig's particle. Big bonus as my dad caught his PB of 26lb 13ozs, his previous was 24lbs, so he was over the moon. Enjoyed a nice barbecue on the wednesday evening next to the BBQ peg.

Now on to Netty's input -

The Gite was very comfortable, clean and spacious. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the patio in the evening enjoying the last of the sunshine, with a glass of chilled French rose, overlooking the chaps whilst they were fishing! We all slept exceptionally well in very comfortable beds. Jill (Ged's wife) and I took the dog 'Leo' out for 10km walks each day so saw a lot of the beautiful arable countryside and local towns (very friendly locals who I enjoyed revising my French with). The market in Chateau Gontier was well worth a visit with some lovely local food on offer and very reasonably priced clothes. There was a very good 'industrial estate' which housed L'Eclerc supermarket, a petrol station, vet and Intersport.

We had driven 10 hours from Germany to get to the Retreat Lake but it was well worth it. The lake was just coming in to Spring bloom, was very peaceful to fish and lots of wildlife to observe. Kingfishers were seen on a regular basis.

A massive thank you from me, Annette and Malinois Leo for a thoroughly relaxing and worthwhile holiday. We are looking forward to another holiday some time in the future. Thanks Craig and Caroline!

First guests' catch at The Retreat

Halfway through the first week and the new row boat is coming into it's own. Already bringing multiple catches of mid to upper 20's and 30's. The biggest so far for 2012 is 36lb common. The new price structure and refurbished gite now offers luxury fishing at a great price.

Biggest Catch of the Season

Well Done to the Harris family who came to The Retreat for a week from 16 July. They caught 22 carp in total with 3 of them fishing, including the biggest of the year so far at 37lb. Night fishing produced the most successful results using a variety of tactics in open water close to the pump. Please send through the photos soon!!

The family described the venue as a fantastic place and a top venue.

Congratulations to Sonia & Terry

Craig and Caroline would like to say a big Congratulations to Sonia and Terry who got engaged on their holiday at The Retreat last week. Terry caught his PB at 35lbs7ozs, but found the best catch of his life with Sonia. Well done Terry! Personally Caroline thought the diamond ring was more stunning than the Carp he caught, but that's just a matter of opinion. We wish them all the happiness for their future life together and would like to say that we have had people here on honeymoon before, if they want to come back! Just alittle advice though. Make sure you get a good photographer for the wedding won't you!

Very Best Wishes

Caroline & Craig
