Top Up Carp Stocking

The popular venue Poplars Lake has received a top up of carp for the new season to add to the already impressive list of carp it contains.

Pictured here are the four biggest of the batch. The common weighs 38lbs and the mirrors 38lbs, 37lbs and 36lbs.

There are odd weeks free in 2012 on Poplars which has produced carp to 46lbs and cats to 120lbs.

August Personal Bests!

It has been another month of personal bests on Poplars Lake.

First up, was Mike Smith with a personal best mirror of 41lb, followed up with mirrors of 36lb, 33lb and 32lb plus several twenties all caught in between touring the area.

Next was Lee Hallams party who all caught good carp and cats. Kyle Taylor had the biggest fish with his first ever cat being a new personal best of 70lb on luncheon meat! Daz Bray also banked a first and new pb cat of 53lbs.

Regular Kevin O'Shea from South Wales was unlucky in losing six monster cats but still managed a new personal best of 68lbs also on luncheon meat. Kevins friend Gregg also had several cats, with a new personal best cat of 28lbs, plus a mirror of 30lbs caught on his last night.

Jamie and Jack Leave Poplars with Four new PB's

Fishing from 9th Julty to 16 July, father and son Jack and Jamie Cottee broke their personal bests several times during their stay and left the lake well happy with three new personal bests!

Dad Jack had a new personal best mirror of 37lb 8oz and another of 34lb 5oz. Jack also had his first-ever catfish at 14lb 4oz.

Son Jamie banked a new personal best and his first forty mirror at 40lb 1oz, then came close again with a mirror of 39lb 14oz. He also had a common of 12lb 3oz, a ghost common of 15lb 15oz, and to top all that his first ever cat and new personal best of 70lb!

Jamie commented: "I'd like to say a big thank you to Paul and Hazel, great week of fishing. Hazel's food was brilliant. Looking forward to coming next year!'

5 Personal bests in a week!

Nigel and Keith fishing 21st May to 28th May: Catch Report.

Mirrors: 19lb 9oz, 12lb 7oz, 33lb 14oz (pb for Keith), 34lb 7oz, (pb for Keith), 36lb 8oz (pb for Keith) 33lb 6oz, 39lb (pb for Nigel).

Commons: 13lb, 19lb 7oz.

Wels' catfish: 29lb, 14lb, 12lb, 62lb (pb for Keith).

Comments: boilie over pellet under trees. Yet again another peaceful and enjoyable week. Five PB"s landed. Fishing got better as the week progressed. See you for a repeat in a few weeks!

Visiting anglers to Birch and Poplars Lake have recorded no less than 21 new personal bests in the last four weeks! Highlight catches from Birch Lake include new personal bests for second-time visitors Damon Allen and Stuart Woods. Damon banked a catfish of 66lb 8oz - a new Birch record Wels' - whilst Stuart Woods landed a personal best common carp of 31lb and a p.b. mirror of 36lb. Also scoring on Birch was Alan Taylor from Cambridgeshire with a common of 30lb and a 65lb monster cat breaking his p.b.'s out of sight. Alan's party also managed to catch several nice Birch carp off the surface - the first time this method has succeeded at the venue! Highlight catches on Poplars include a new lake record, complex record and a personal best Wels' catfish of 85lb to Dean Southall of West Bromwich. Dean landed his awesome fish on a pork pie! He then followed that up with another of 78lb, this time on black pudding! Not content with that Dean landed also landed a personal best mirror of 32lb. Dean's wife, Sharon, landed a new p.b. Wels' of 70lb on the same trip - the biggest cat ever landed by a lady angler at Etangs de Breton! The Southall family are regular visitors, and have already re-booked for two weeks with us next year! Brian Swinyard and Maureen Swinyard from London are also regular visitors, and in a two week stay Brian caught several carp from Birch up to a new best of 35lb 12oz mirror, then beat that with a 36lb mirror from Poplars Lake! When Trevor Davies from Stockport arrived at Poplars Lake he had never, ever fished or caught a carp. Following some quick tuition, Trevor was soon into a fish, landing a personal best and first-ever carp of 22lb, catching several other carp in his day-only sessions culminating in a new p.b. mirror of 24lb. Well done, Trevor!
