I had the privilege to spend a week at Paul Hawkins Fishylake. It was one of the worst weeks for the weather for years in France. The weather was bad but the fishing was great!
I am in a wheelchair all of the time, so things needed to be wheelchair-friendly, and it was. Most lakes have one swim for the disabled which is the stranded in England and in the wrong place on the lake most of the time; at Fishylake you can fish any swim you like on the lake. The swims are concrete and the right size so I could turn my wheelchair around if I wanted - even with the rod pod down & holding two rods there was enough room for us and Paul, who was on site to offer any help that I needed to land any of the big fish.
Around the lake is level grass which is very hard , so makes it easy for you to drive around the lake in your wheelchairs; mine is electric and I got around the lake without any problem.
The entrance to the cabins have special wire grids to make sure you can get into the cabins without wheel slip on your chair if it has been raining. One cabin is the kitchen and has a shower area off it which allows you to change from your wheelchair to the shower chair with ease. It also has a toilet which is perfect for the disabled. The second cabin contains two single beds and another toilet, again for the disabled, there is plenty of room around the bed for you and your wheelchair. Paul has said he will install charging points on the lake so you can charge your electric wheelchairs to keep you mobile.
For the disabled fishing men it is first rate I cannot speak too highly of Fishylake and the Hawkins Family.
P.S I also broke my personal best fish at Fishylake!
