L  ‘Etang Rompu is a beautiful and well matured 30 year old lake set in the middle of  42 acres of privately owned forest.

The lake is partially surrounded by pine and oak trees, providing both shelter and access to the spectacular views over the countryside, a breathtaking experience in its self.

The lake spans just over three acres in size and is fed by three springs and a small stream; this ensures a good turnover of water even in the summer months.

The lake bed is hard and offers excellent bait presentation; you will also find some silty areas by the three mature lily beds that offer sanctuary to the carp.

The lake depth averages about two feet at the far margins and drops off to about 8 feet by the lily beds.

The lake offers three swims, there are two swims on the dam wall each having their own separate lily beds to fish to, and the third swim is situated at the far margin with its own twenty five metre squared decking area.

The lake has been highly stocked with Commons and Mirrors averaging 30lb and reaching up to the 40lb mark, we also have a resident cat fish just shy of 70lb, and several Sturgeons up to 20lb.

There is also some impressive Coarse fish to be caught with perch well over 2lb and roach over 1lb.

Our Facilities

The lake side accommodation comprises of a large Gite sleeping up to six people. There is also a log cabin that overlooks the lake, this sleeps two people.

The large Gite is comprised of

A large bedroom with double bed and storage area for clothes. We can also offer bunk beds for children on request. The lounge area has a coffee table and two large fabric sofa beds which connects together to create another double bed. The dining area has a large table with chairs that will comfortably seat six people; we also have a breakfast table which seats four people. The bathroom has one toilet, hand basin and a shower cubical; there is also a storage area for your toiletries. The kitchen has a fridge, sink, gas cooker, all utensils and cutlery to accommodate for up to eight people. There is fencing all around the out skirts of the Gite creating a secure terrace area, so for those who bring children or even dogs there is no concern about wondering off into the woodland, or even going near the water’s edge. Barbeque area is located in the terraced area with table and chairs. All our accommodation is thoroughly cleaned prior to your arrival, bed lining and tea towels are supplied. (Bath towels & sleeping bags are not supplied)

The Woodland Retreat offers a fly-drive option with airport pickup from Limoges Airport, and supermarket trips.
