Nestling in a stunning rural 52 acre woodland setting in the beautiful Champagne-Ardennes region of France, close to the picturesque village of Montier en Der and only a 4hr drive from Calais, Petit Pretre offers the perfect relaxing venue for the angling connoisseur.

Petit Pretre which is French for “Little Priest” is the traditional name given to the lakes which were originally excavated several hundred years ago by Monks setting up their own fish farming facilities, hence the name “Little Priest”.  They were first recorded during the reign of Louis XIV who commissioned the famous cartographer Cassini family to produce detailed maps of France.

The lakes are now part of a family run Carp Fishing Business which opened in 2008. On your arrival you will be met by Lee (our Bailiff) who will ensure your stay runs as smooth as possible.

There are two carp fishing lakes at Petit Pretre, The Main Lake and The Gun Lake, both offering superb carp fishing in France.  A third lake is currently under construction and will be opened sometime in the near future. 

The Main lake at 7.5 acres can accommodate up to 7 anglers on a choice of 8 single swims and 3 double swims. The Main Lake holds a large selection of carp ranging from 20, 30, 40lbs and the current lake record to date is 54lb. all beautiful mirrors, common and a few linears too. There is also a catfish at 60lbs.

The Gun lake is 5 acres and accomodates up to 4 anglers of 3 double and 1 single swim. There's a good selection of Carp to 46lbs plus a small catfish at 30lbs.

The main lake of 7.5 acres has 250 plus Mirror/Common of 20lb, 30lb, 40lb, - with larger carp up to 54lbs. There are also a Catfish at 60lbs plus Pike to 20lbs, Tench, Roach and Rudd providing a well balanced fishery. No possion chat or cray. New carp have been added for the 2012 season.

Eleven swims have been prepared, including three doubles, one is reasonably suitable for disabled access. The maximum number of anglers per week is restricted to 7. This provides anglers with the opportunity to move swims should they wish to do so. Night fishing is allowed and no permits are required. Watering cans are available at every swim for wetting the fish.  We also supply you with landing nets, unhooking mats and slings.

Radio controlled Bait Boats are welcome (please see the Fishery Rules for more information). Inflatable boats, other types of personal craft and individual use of the lake boat are not permitted for insurance reasons. We provide a tractor service for tackle delivery and collection to the far bank. During daylight hours hours, carpet and spot baiting can be undertaken by Lee (our Baliff) as as requested.

We use locally sourced supplies with organic home grown vegetables where possible.

Breakfast consists of traditional English or French fare including croissants, baguettes, English cereals, toast and of course a cooked breakfast too. Breakfast rolls can be delivered to your swim if requested.

Vegetarian options may be limited but we will always try our best to accommodate special requirements if prior notice is given.
