Another January forty !

21/01/2012

Fishing at this time of year can be very slow, and one fish is all that is needed to make it all worthwhile. It is rare to see fish crash or roll, and you have to be very vigilant to see anything at all. However I felt that conditions were favourable and that it might be possible to get one or two b ....more

Second sixty of 2011.

17/12/2011

I have been catching a few nice fish here lately and I like to have a good go at fishing the lake in November and December if the weather is reasonable, (after watching customers fish the lake for 7 months of the year I am more than ready to have a go myself). It has been very mild here with daytim ....more

December Crackers !

The autumn 2011 period saw some hard weeks' fishing at Les Croix, and this continued throughout November, the warm weather having a negataive effect on the fishing, but providing an extended feeding period for the carp with an abundance of natural food making them very hard to tempt. A very special venue offering the rare combination of superb lakeside accommodation and a serious carp water with lots of big fish.

The 3.6 acre spring fed lake sits in a 10 acre private secure site overlooked by the lovely, modern lakeside accommodation which is finished to a very high standard, and which sleeps up to 6 people.

The accommodation features an outside terrace, swimming pool with sun patio and Sky TV.

Les Croix offers you a relaxing holiday that involves more than a week in a bivvy !

The venue is situated in the warm sunny Charente region of South West France, officially the second sunniest region after the Mediterranean coast. The area is very green and rural, but has excellent facilities only a 12 minute drive from the lake. There are lots of good restaurants close by, and plenty to see and do in the area.

The lake contains around 130 carp of which 95% are 25lbs+ with around 75 x 30’s, 20 x 40’s and four fish over fifty pounds. 2011 has produced both common and mirror carp to 61lbs, the fish are still growing, with an average weight gain of 7-8lbs in 2011, and we expect to see a lot of very large carp caught in 2012.

There are no poisson chat, catfish or sturgeon in the lake.

Les Croix is available for exclusive bookings, 2 anglers per week maximum, and welcomes experienced carp anglers  - thank you.

  • Lake Bed : Hard margins of clay/sand/gravel mixture with an area of shallow silt in the centre.

Les Croix is situated in the quiet, scenic, unspoilt Charente-Limousine region of South West France. Wildlife is abundant with buzzards, kites, kingfishers, osprey, woodpeckers and many other wild birds. Deer and wild boar frequent the surrounding woodland. Les Croix welcomes couples - one angler is not a problem, small dogs are allowed.

The lake has a population of around 130 hard fighting carp, 95% are over 25lbs, approximately 50% of the stock are over 30lbs with around 20 different 40's, with mirrors and commons to 61lbs+. There are a  variety of strains and a good number of very pretty scaley fish. These young fish are still putting on weight and some very big fish are expected in 2012.

Every week that has had anglers on the lake has seen carp of 30lb+ landed, with most weeks seeing plenty of thirties and loads of twenties caught. This is not a runs lake but a catch of quality carp is on the cards for thinking anglers. An average catch at Les Croix would be 12 - 15 carp to one angler in a week.

The owner, Jon, is a UK qualified fisheries officer with 10 years of field experience in fisheries management - so you can be sure of a well managed lake !

Les Croix is one of just a handful of French venues where you can find superb carp fishing with big fish and quality lakeside accommodation together. Many customers say that the photos do not do the venue  justice, and that it has surpassed their expectations.

The anglers and guests have exclusive use of the fully renovated, modern, fully equipped lakeside gite accommodation. Only a few metres from the water in a very private sunny location, the 65 square metre property sleeps up to 6 people, with 2 bedrooms (one double and one twin), kitchen/living room with  comfortable double sofa bed, dining area, hi-fi system, DVD player + 100 DVD's and English satellite TV. There is a bathroom with large wall to wall shower, wash basin and English W/C. The kitchen has an electric fan oven, gas hob, extractor fan, microwave, fridge freezer, crockery, pans, cutlery with plenty of workspace and cupboard storage.

The gite is double glazed and well insulated and remains cool in summer and warm in the cooler months with electric heaters in all rooms.

The accommodation is maintained in immaculate condition and is thoroughly cleaned every week so that you will find it in spotless condition on your arrival.

There are 3 purpose built swims close to the gite, from which most of the lake can be covered easily (please note that fishing from the gite is not allowed).

Gas, electricity and bed linen (not towels) are all included in the price

Outside you will find a terrace with gas barbecue, table and chairs with parasol and the lawns which lead down to the lake.

Next to the terrace is the above ground swimming pool and adjoining sun patio, which is for your use only during your stay, a welcome luxury extra in which to cool off on those hot days and relax .... The pool will be open from May to October  -  weather dependant !

Please note that the gite is a smoke free zone - smoking is not permitted inside.
