We have done some major changes at Huntersretreat,taken out the 2 Islands to make bigger and better swims,cleaned out all the over hanging trees and roots that was a snagging problem, all the swims run down the one side, and weve dug out the top end to make it deeper,all winter the Carp have been fe ....more

Another great week here,as usual,thanks to pam and mark they add that extra dimention to the wk,great night of entertainment as for the fishing !!!! Can't complain -with Ade getting his P.B and the LAKE record on his 1st day of fishing-45lb14oz common(caught on raja spice) one may ask if he had peak ....more

What a lovely place easily ous best experience of èyears of french fishing,mark and Pam great hosts and have worked really hard to get Huntersretreat to the high standard it is,weather hot slowed fishing down but so what when you have these surroundings Catches all mirror Carp 14lb,18lb,3x2 ....more

Hunters Retreat is a 5 acre lake in the Loire, 10 minutes away from the historical town of Chateaubriant and 4 Km from the picturesque village of St Aubin Des Chateaux which has all the amenities you will need, including a bar which does meals. It is also only 5 minutes to our local creperie / restaurant.
The lake was bought in 2004 and was completely emptied and de-silted. Mark, being an avid angler, restocked it with mirror, common, grass and wild carp plus sturgeon, pike and black bass. The lake was reopened in 2009 and the lake record stands at a 45lb 9oz common carp
All the fish are in pristine condition and are gaining weight all the time.

- Depth : 2ft - 10ft
- Carp Stock : 150 Mirror & Common Carp to 46lbs (lake record)
- Other Fish : Sturgeon, Grass Carp, Black Bass
- Lake Bed : Firm clay bottom
- Features : Scattered Lilys
- Access : Excellent access by foot, no vehicle access around the lake.

- Boats Allowed : No

The lake is 5 acres with 6 swims, with a path going all the way around it. It is part gravel bottomed with underwater features, islands, trees and lily pads to make an appealing environment for the fish.
The fish are regularly fed so are growing well and are used to feeding.
Fish include Common, Mirror, Grass Wild Carp up to 45lb 9oz with plenty of doubles, twenties and thirties.
4 sturgeon only, Black Bass, and a few small Pike (NO POISSON CHAT OR CRAY FISH)
For the fishing widow who doesn’t want to bivvy up or for a relaxing family holiday, there is a very comfortable, well laid out mobile home which sleeps 4 with 2 bedrooms 1 double and 1 twin. It has a shower room, toilet, cooker and hob, microwave, CD player, books, TV and DVD player - all the home comforts you need for a great holiday. The caravan sleeps 2 and also has kitchen facilities.
Bait Cabin
The bait cabin has bait preparation facilities, fridge/freezer, shower, toilet so you can keep all the messy fishing gear outside of your accommodation.

Good morning mark and Pam . Missing the place already the fishing was amazing in total i had 5 diffrent carp in the 20lb mark , 1 32.12 mirror and stergion same fish several times we were on first name terms by the end of the week . gr8 fun . i also had the privelidge of naming a fish after my ....more

"Were both from St Ives in Cornwall and the fishing there is sparse so we booked a holiday at Huntersretreat and what a blinder we had i had plenty of doubles bigest being 26lb then caught a whoping 38.8 common smashing my PB also caught a Stugeon which is something i alawys wanted to catch. Hunters Retreat is perfect for everyone and Pam & Mark are such great hosts and will do anything to help and make your stay so plesant. This was our second year and we have already booked for our 3rd next year. ....more
