The Retreat Lake is a 2.5 acre lake in a secluded position, and located only 6 kms from the beautiful river town of Chateau-Gontier in Mayenne. The town offers excellent facilities including  a variety of supermarkets and shops, restaurants, bars, a swimming pool, boat trips along the river and a weekly market. The Retreat Lake can be reached by car from the ports of  Boulogne in 4.5hrs, Calais in 5hrs, Caen(Ouistreham) in 3hrs and St-Malo in 1.5hrs. The Retreat Lake is located about 30 mins south of  Laval, the capital of Mayenne and the A81 motorway. Craig and Caroline Neary live on site to welcome you personally to The Retreat and help you make the most of your stay. They are on hand to provide you with information about what to do and where to go, should you wish to leave the lake, as well as providing meals. Breakfast, snacks, evening meals and Sunday lunch are all available from the menu, if required.

Price from £600.00 for up to 4 anglers excluding ferry crossing

This beautiful lake is approx 3 acres in size and was dug over forty years ago, having only been used for the benefit of the owner for pleasure fishing. It was previously surrounded by poplar trees which resulted in approximately one metre of silt to buid up. Since acquiring the property they have completely drained and desilted the lake. It was also made twice as deep as originally constructed with depths varying between 3 to 11ft. The bottom varies with soft mud, hard bottom, the odd patch of silt and gravel patches. There is also an island that is made up of trees, the roots of which are embedded in the lake itself. The lake is spring fed and water quality is very good with lots of natural food.

Since completion of this, the lake has been stocked with 100 mirror and common carp between 18lbs-30lbs and 4 carp between 40lb-46lb.There are also 20 grass carp between 7lb-26lb. The lake also contains pike to 24lb, black bass and roach. The fish have been fed on a high protein pellet and boillies which are available to purchase from the owners.

The fish are not shy when they hear the sound of bait hitting the water and therefore would put the lake in a runs water category.
