Poppy's Lake - A hectic 5 days on Poppy's Lake

For 5 days this week we had father and son, Raymond and Jorn Gorissen fishing Poppy's lake. For 12 year old Jorn it was a birthday treat and he had a wonderful time catching a great many of the hard fighting carp that Poppy's is renowned for. Father Raymond also had his share of the fish including a mirror that took him several hours to land. At a tad over 31lb it refused to give up and I sat watching the fight for a good half hour and quite frankly there was little that Raymond could do other than hang on !! The total catch was well over 50 fish (I forgot to ask them before they left) with a great many of between 20 and 30lb. With the fish growing fast I am confident that we will start seeing more and more 30lb+ carp banked during the year.

Some pictures from this week.

Poppy's Lake - Over 100 carp - days only !!

Blog Post Image Blog Post Image

We have just waved goodbye to three very relaxed anglers who fished days only (and not all days at that ) and amassed a catch of 115 carp. No monsters but all hard fighting fish between 15lb and 29lb with several more fish lost during the fight. What made the catch more remarkable was that the week was very wet, very cold and more like a December week than an April one. This morning the sun threatened to break through the massed clouds and in response carp were to be seen topping all over the lake. Our new arrivals are a Dutch angler and his young son who I feel sure will be having a very hectic time of things and with the weather set to improve in the coming days I feel sure that a good many fish will be banked.

Poppy's Lake - Poppy's Lake now ready and waiting.

New swims are being built on Poppy's lake as I write and the fish have been enjoying peaceful feeding all over the winter. We continue to feed the lake several times a week and the carp are coming along nicely and test fishing last week produced plenty of carp up to the mid 20's. No monsters yet but as a runs water this lovely little lake will take some beating with a huge stock of hard fighting young fish. For the self catering angler there will be a huge 'Amercian style' gas bbq and covered eating area for your use.

Be sure to check out the website at - poppyslake.weebly.com for more information.

Poppy's Lake - Netting and digging !!

After a succesful netting of Poppy's lake with are now busily excavating a couple of islands plus deeper area's to add more variety to the fishing. Poppy's will always be a plolific and pretty fishery but we are trying to add features that will give far more interest to the fishing than in the past. With the two new island being surrounded with deeper water and some margins also being deepened we are hoping that anglers will be encouraged to partake in a little stalking and more mobile fishing during the hot day's of summer. Work continues and regular updates and pictures can be seen on the blog at - carpdreams.wordpress.com.

Don't for get that with a price of just £500 for up to 3 anglers and £600 for 4 anglers Poppy's offers not just great fishing but also great value. Happy days !

Poppy's Lake - Easy fishing.

For the past few weeks the difficult conditions have seen many of our anglers spending time away from the main lake and fishing Poppy's lake. Not to be disapointed tha lads have managed to catch a huge number of carp, mainly doubles but with some good 20's and the odd 30 to add spice to the fishing. As always the carp are fighting like fish twice their size and with daytime fishing being so productive the nights see the lads reel and and relax over a beer or two. It is quite possible for an angler to bag upwards of 15 carp a day irrespective of conditions and although not a big fish water Poppy's does offer the angler the opportunity to have a regular bend in the rod with the chance of a biggie always on the cards. Happy days !

Poppy's Lake - 87 carp in 3 days at Poppy's lake.

Blog Post Image Blog Post Image Blog Post Image Blog Post Image

We have just had Paul ( a LMDM regular) visit us with his lad Brent together with his schoolmate Leon. They fished for 3 days in Poppy's lake and managed a catch of 87 carp. Plenty of singles, doubles and 20's as well as a brace of 30's made up the bag with the best fish being a 33lb mirror and a 32lb common carp. Paul had the 2 biggies with Brent topping his catch off with a 29.8lb mirror and Leon with a 27lb mirror. With such a huge stock in the lake it sometimes can take time to winkle out the bigger fish that run up to 45lb  but the lads enjoyed their stay and rarely had a quiet moment with at least one rod having a run every 15 mins or so. Hectic sport and great fun.
