The Retreat - Lake Record at The Retreat

Congratulations to Mike& Craig Shepherd who visited The Retreat the last week in April and caught the lake record Common at 41lbs, commenting that it was the strongest fighting fish they had ever caught! Strageties which helped were fishing from margins using a bait boat with high beds of bait. Hook link to boilie and popup imitation sweetcorn, bait bed of pellet, sweetcorn and boilies.

Mike and Craig commented that the Gite and Lake can only be described as excellent. Pat and Philip were exceptional hosts and made our stay very comfortable and welcome. We will recommend to friends and family without hesitation.

The Retreat - Best gite we have been to in 20 Years

Andy (the angler) and Sue Rudduck came to The Retreat from 4 to 11 October and caught 35 carp, including 2 x 30's and 10x 20's. Strategy used was KD rig, reverse snowman with 15kgs of pellet and 10kgs of boilies. Both reported that the gite was very clean and the best equipped they had ever been to, having been to quite a few in the past 20 years. They would have no hesitation in recommending The Retreat to family or friends and would like to thank Pat and Phil for being briilant hosts, with nothing having been too much trouble and their help with the car.

The Retreat - Great runs water with 68 fish in a week!

Andrew and Natalie came to The Retreat from 20 to 27 September and caught a total of 68 fish, not even fishing nights! 67 Carp and 1 catfish, with 5x 30's and 19x 20's. Mainly commons, which was a nice change. Stragegy used was sticky vortex with chopped boilie and pellet with a bait boat to margins and changing spots. Baited up every evening and kept lines out of water......which paid dividends. Andrew and Natalie also commented that the facilities were great. The gite was very comfortable amd homely. Hot water and washing machine were a godsend. Pat and Philip were very accommodating hosts and happy to help with anything, even cooking us a meal on the last night which was lovely. Fish were stunning and in very good condition.

The Retreat - First visit to The Retreat

First time visitors Alan and Karen to The Retreat had a great time in April. A total of 75 runs during the week landed them 63 fish. 7x30lb plus, 15x25lb plus and 14x20lb plus. The biggest Common was 36lb 4 and the biggest Mirror 35lb 6. The couple descibed the lake as 'a fantastic runs water' and the venue had a very clean, fully equiped and comfortable gite. They have already recommended it to their friends!

Thank you Karen and Alan. We are pleased you had a fantastic time and hope to see you and your friends again soon!

The Retreat - Very quiet and very relaxing - 'The Retreat' name fits it well

Phil and Adele Farley who spent two weeks at The Retreat commented on the fitting name for THE RETREAT describing it as the perfect venue for relaxation and peace and quiet. Gite was homely and venue provided a great compromise for fishing and non fishing due to the facilities and wonderful surroundings, meeting all of their needs perfectly.

The Retreat - Honeymoon at The Retreat

Congratulations to Sonia and Terry Crane!

Having previously got engaged whilst here on their last holiday in 2011, newlyweds Sonia and Terry returned to The Retreat for their Honeymoon this year. The weather was wonderful, the surroundings were beautiful and the accommodation fantastic. Sonia relaxed and enjoyed beauty spa treatments to relax and unwind, while her new husband concentrated on the second love of his!!! Seems Terry has caught himself the best catch of his life this time, as well as reeling in some superb carp at The Retreat Lake. Venue owners Caroline and Craig wish you many years of happiness together and fond memories of your holidays here. We look forward to seeing you again next year.

The Retreat - Craig and Caroline are fantastic at running this place

Paul and Linda, who returned for the second time this year reported another fantastic week at The Retreat and didn't want to go home again. Catching a total of 21 fish, including a 34lb mirror and a 30lb 8oz common, plus 6 more ranging from 25lb 10oz to 27lb 8oz . They have told everyone they know about the place and are planning to return again next year. Paul was gutted to lose a fish around the 40lb mark after a 15min fight, due to the splicing on one of his solar unleaded leaders coming undone. Bad Luck Paul and better luck next year!

New guests for 2012, Lynne and Tony Rogers gave the feedback that they 'could want for nothing' following their stay at The Retreat last week. Despite the hot weather and not fishing nights and limited daytimes , Tony still managed to catch some good fish, the best being a 21lb common. Lynne reported having had a wonderful time and really enjoyed the massage treatment by owner and Beauty Therapist, Caroline who provides professional beauty spa treatments for all the 'angling widows' and lady anglers alike. Planning to come back again soon.
