Eagle Lake & Peters Pool - Three PB carp: 13 years apart!

Blog Post Image Blog Post Image Blog Post Image Blog Post Image

Keith Lansley from Swindon first visited Etangs De Breton in 2004, when Peter Biles (after whom Peter's Pool on the complex is named) was the bailiff.

He left in 2004 with a personal best mirror carp of 39lbs from Poplars Lake.

In 2017 Keith returned and left this time with a new personal best mirror of 41lbs 8ozs and back-up mirrors of 38lb 5oz, 36lb and 28lb 12oz from Eagle Lake.

He also fished Peter's Pool next to Eagle and he banked another personal best, this time a common carp of 31lb 13oz along with a bonus sturgeon of 16lb.

I am quite sure Peter, now well into his 80's, would be quite proud of his old friends catch!

Orchard Lake - Michele banks three personal bests!

Blog Post Image Blog Post Image Blog Post Image

Michele Martin, visiting Orchard Lake with her fiance Ant Clark, set out with the aim of catching a sturgeon, one carp and one catfish. One of each would have made her very happy!

She ended up however, catching eight fish,  including a 15lb 8oz sturgeon, a 37lb 4oz common carp and a 57lb 3oz  Wels' catfish - all smashing her personal best.

Michele said: "I'm thrilled. Biggest thanks to Ant for his constant advice and support. Also many thanks to Paul and Hazel for their hospitality."

Poplars Lake - Our Regulars!

Blog Post Image Blog Post Image Blog Post Image

Long time regular visitors Mr and Mrs Andy and Paddy O'Brien are from Wigan, Greater Manchester.

For the first few years they stuck to Orchard Lake and Eagle Lake and Peter's Pool. However a couple of years ago the weeks they wanted on these were not available and we suggested Poplars Lake as an alternative which they had never fished.

They gave it a go and fell in love with the place! They have had numerous carp and cats with Paddy often outfishing Andy and they enjoy the convenience of the lakeside mobile home which you can fish from if you like.

In 2016 on their last visit Andy was fortunate enough to catch no less than three personal bests from three different waters. Firstly, he had a pb Wels' of 70lb from Poplars, then he stalked a pb common of 33lbs from Peter's Pool, then a 40lb mirror from Eagle Lake!

For 2017 they are coming out for four weeks with a week on Orchard and three weeks on their favourite Poplars Lake!

Eagle Lake & Peters Pool - Our Regulars!

We have always had a lot of clients from the North West of England.

This is probably because complex owner Paul has strong links with that area. He was North West Regional Organiser for the Carp Society for many years and his North West Diary was a regular feature in Carp-Talk for almost a decade.

The Atherton's are from Wigan and consist of dad Peter, son Ben and occasional other son Will. They have been coming for a number of years and we have seen Ben grow from a young lad into a  man. The Atherton's are quite competitive, always striving to oudue each other. Wind-ups are the order of the day!

In recent years they have grown very fond of Eagle and Peter's from which they have caught some great carp and cats.

They are out again on Eagle and Peters in July 2017.

Orchard Lake - Our Regulars!

Alan and Judy Lobley from Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, have been visiting the complex for over a decade.

They fell in love with Orchard Lake on  their first visit some years ago to such an extent that they have booked the first two weeks of September on Orchard every year indefinitely.

Alan is a very accomplished angler and is equally at home with big cats as well as the carp and always does well. Judy likes the comfort of the cabin on Orchard and with it being so close to the swims she can help Alan out with fish if needs be.

They also fell in love with Gizmo our Yorkshire terrier from when he was a pup and he inspired them to get a Yorkshire of their own, but then they went a bit far in that they now have three Yorkies - Oscar, Ellie and Ted!

The dogs come out with them every September and really  love the space and freedom they have to wander and explore the banks.

Alan and Judy are out again for their two weeks in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 etc...........

Birch Lake - Our Regulars!

Blog Post Image Blog Post Image

For over a decade a group of anglers from Somerset and Avon police annually visited the complex.

They fished all the lakes at the complex banking many personal bests, but their favourite venue was Birch Lake for the quality of the fishing and the good bankside accomodation..

One of the policeman, a Traffic Unit boss from Frome called Nigel Butler set a record catch in 2009.

In a single day Nigel landed seven cats with the two biggest at 120lbs and 105lbs making this catch the biggest brace of catfish ever landed from the complex.

A couple of years ago Nigel retired and bought his own carp and cat lake just a few minutes drive away, so we have lost a client but gained a very good friend. If you are coming over in 2017, you may bump into him as he often calls over to see how our fishermen are doing.

Here are the pictures of his 225lb brace!

Could you break his record in 2017?

David Simons and Ian Brownell have been visiting the complex for a decade now. Their early efforts were on Poplars Lake where the caught many carp into the mid-40s and some of the very big cats. In more recent years they have focused on Eagle and Peters where they continued to catch consistently and in 2016 they fished Orchard for the first time landing many fish.

They are booked onto Eagle and Peters in September 2017 and September 2018.

Another angler who has been coming for over a decade is Darren Norris. He has fished every lake on the complex and is a fan of the big cats as well as the carp. Darren holds the record carp and cat brace from Eagle and Peters with a carp of 44lbs and a Wels' of 77lbs caught on the same day. The 77lb Wels' was a new record for Eagle until it was broken by an 80lb fish this season.

Darren is out again with us for 2017.

Birch Lake - Our Regulars

The Howcroft family from Basingstoke have been coming to the complex for seven years now.

In that time they have fished all four venues: Birch, Poplars, Eagle and Peters and Orchard. They are equally at home targetting the big cats as well as the carp. I can't recollect a visit where they have no caught well with dad Fred and son David often chasing the big cats. Mum Jan is a very fine angler too and often banks the biggest carp of the week. David's daughter Lauren often comes with them.

In 2017 they have booked in for two weeks laid-back fishing on Orchard lake at the end of September.

Orchard Lake - Our Regulars !

Blog Post Image Blog Post Image Blog Post Image Blog Post Image

We thought it would be a good idea to feature in the Blog some of our regular anglers who have fished the complex for several years now.

First up is 76 years young Colin from Luton. Colin has fished Poplars, Birch and Orchard in recent years and here he is pictured with a personal best 34lbs plus from Orchard which beat his previous best of 29lbs from Birch. He is fishing Orchard in 2017.

Shelly from Epsom is our most successful lady angler and has fished Birch, Eagle and Peters and Orchard and always does well, often outfishing her male fishing companions. Here she is pictured with Casper at 41lbs from Orchard and her pb Wels of 63lbs 5ozs. Shelly comes out a couple of times a year and is on Eagle and Peters and Orchard in 2017.

More regulars will be featured in next weeks Blog!

Birch Lake - Busy at Birch Lake!

Blog Post Image Blog Post Image

Regulars that fish Birch will notice some major work on the far margin tree-line opposite the swims has been completed ready for the 2015 season. Regulars will know that in several spots on the far bank we have allowed the overhanging trees to spread out up to several meters over the lake to provide cover for the carp. However it was obvious last season that some of these trees had really come out too far, and some were in danger of falling into the lake and in the process taking much of the bankside with them. On the advice of our tree surgeon, Anthony, we have removed a number of the overhanging trees making the far bank much more accessible to the angler whilst at the same time still preserving the unique Birch atmosphere. We think this work will make the fishing easier as it will encourage the carp to move around the whole lake more rather than have them sitting tight to the far bank as they have tended to do in recent seasons. Another bonus is the lake will now get more wind on it and for the benefit of our many lady visitors to Birch more prolonged sunshine!
