Le Moulin du Mee - Le Moulin du Mee - week 6 summary.

Blog Post Image Blog Post Image Blog Post Image

A week that started warm and sunny finished up wet and cold and with the carp still spawning the catches have gradually tailed off with last night failing to produce a single fish. Lots of thrashing around in the shallows could be heard over night as the carp continued with their spawning and we will wait and see whether the cooler weather will put a halt to their activities. As a week it was surprisingly good with the lads managing to bank 31 carp and a solitary sturgeon including a brace of 50lb+ commons and a further 14 carp over the 40lb mark. Darren had a good bag of 14 carp from the shallows and Pete had 4 carp from ‘Middle Ground’ for a total weight of over 200lb (52lb common, 51lb 8oz common, 48lb 12oz mirror and 48lb mirror). All the other lads (except poor old Paul) managed 40lb+ fish and although the fishing was never easy I feel that the result was very good considering that for much of the week we had carp spawning merrily away. One aspect of this year is that up to now we are seeing a great many of our carp in the 45lb+ bracket and with eight of the fifties being new to that weight I feel that 2013 is going to be a rather special year for us. My ambition has always been to have a fishery that offers every angler a good chance of a 40lb+ carp with a realistic chance of a 50 and I believe that we have now reached that stage in the development of LMDM. It will be interesting to see how the known big fish have prospered and having seen such sustained growth in the rest of the stock I am anticipating several ne 60lb+ carp to be showing up in catches this year. Our old friend ‘Saddleback’ has yet to show up and although I am fearing the worst for the girl we may be surprised and see her back to her best when she is eventually banked. A sustained spell of warm weather would now be very welcome but the forecast is for much cooler weather this week gradually warming up from Thursday onwards so with carp still spawning I am not expecting any fireworks this week. Knowing my track record at predictions it will more than likely turn out to be a blinding week !! Totals for this year up to the end of week 6 are as follows. 50lb+ carp – 11 (up to 59lb 8oz) 40lb - 50lb carp – 50 (More than half over 45lb) 30lb - 40lb carp – 47 20lb - 30lb carp – 20 Doubles – 6 Singles – 3 Full details can be seen on our blog on - carpdreams.wordpress.com

Lac de Laneuville - 6 to 13th April 13

Blog Post Image

The catch report resulted in 3 fish to a 47lb3ozs Common carp & a large pike.  The Common was a fish we had stocked many years ago & only a few people have had the pleasure of catching.  Looking in mint condition & I am pleased with weight gain.  It was a difficult week with excessive rainfall & cold winds.

This week looks better for fishing & it will be interesting to see when the first 50 of the year is caught!!  Cod on!

So far so good

It's been a mixed start to the season with some venues having the best start to a season they have ever had, namely Vallee Lake 1 with umpteen 50's and several 60's (http://www.carp-france.com/Venue.aspx/ValleeLake1) The weather has been unprecedented with the relentless cold weather. For many lakes, the water temperature has remained well below 10 degrees, where normally you expect to see double figures by now.

The general concensus is that the prolonged cold spell will push spawning back and in some cases this maybe toward the latter part of June....the weather can do funny things though and it only takes a hot spell like we had at the end of March last year to bring things back in line with normal business to resume. For all thoses who took a calculated risk this season with spawning in mind....if you get it right this year, you've worked miricles!

Back to the fishing...It's been a very succesful start at Ultimate Lake (http://www.carp-france.com/Venue.aspx/UltimateLake) which also found itseld under a foot anf a half of snow in March still managed to produce some fantastic fish. Jim at Le Moulin du Mee (http://www.carp-france.com/Venue.aspx/LeMoulinduMee) has kept us all updated with what's been going on further south, and the fish are starting to come now it seems with the latest report for this week seeing 5 x 50's, 7 x 40's (4 over 45lb), 10 x 30's, 2 x 20's and a single.

Keeping to the southerly quarters, The new lake Forest Pool, managed by Nikki and Julian of Birch Pool Retreat got off to a flyer with 30 Carp landed including 10 x 30's, very impressive for a 2.5 acre lake which has only just opening for business. As for Birch Pool Retreat (http://www.carp-france.com/Venue.aspx/BirchPoolRetreat), what can I say, 2 PB's already this season in the shape of a 53lb common and 51lb Mirror.

Again, The Retreat (http://www.carp-france.com/Venue.aspx/TheRetreat) exceeds expectations with a wonderful review from Peter Brewer who has recently returned from a 10 day stint. March proved to be good for Lake Juvanze (http://www.carp-france.com/Venue.aspx/LakeJuvanze) too with 50's and 40's coming out in abundance and Juvanze Blue (http://www.carp-france.com/Venue.aspx/LakeJuvanzeBlue) producing some great fishing too.

Eagle Lake (http://www.carp-france.com/Venue.aspx/EaglelakePetersPool) is currently bearing the brunt of some soggy weather but it's keeping the lads on there this week very busy with 20's and 30's coming out all the time. Luckily with the wet weather comes the milder temeratures....but it's still not T-Shirt weather by any stretch of the imagination. Birch Lake (http://www.carp-france.com/Venue.aspx/BirchLake) has also produced well with 3 x 30's and 6 x 20's coming to Simon Palmer last week.

More great reviews coming in for Hooked in France (http://www.carp-france.com/Venue.aspx/hookedinfrance) which started off really well in March with 50 fish being banked in the first 2 weeks including a cracking 50lb+ common.

That's all for now, please don't forget to send through your feedback and photos.

All the best.
